SAN FRANCISCO (TheStreet) -- Intel(INTC Quote), the chipmaker embroiled in the scandal surrounding leaks to Raj Rajaratnam's Galleon Group, hired a San Francisco-based law firm Orrick Herrington & Sutcliff to conduct an investigation, according to Bloomberg.

Orrick previously represented Intel in trademark and intellectual property cases. The firm also represented Intel Capital and JPMorgan in a 2008 investment in Trony Solar Holdings Co., a Chinese solar technology company.

According to a criminal complaint filed in a federal court in Manhattan, Rajiv Goel, a managing director in Intel's treasury group, was charged on Oct. 16 for allegedly passing tips to Rajaratnam about a firm that Intel invested in, Bloomberg reported.

Additionally, Roomy Khan, a former Intel employee, was convicted of wire fraud in 2001 for passing on non-public information to Galleon, according to Bloomberg.

Intel is among several companies, including IBM (IBM Quote), AMD(AMD Quote) and Moody's(MCO Quote), whose names have surfaced during the ongoing Galleon scandal.
